Erica Rose splits her time between Houston and Los Angeles these past few months, but has recently started writing a book — tentatively titled Reality Girl Interrupted — about her journey through the world of reality television and the healing process required in its aftermath.

Erica turned 30 in April, and has already noted a marked difference from her twenties: She’s studying to take the bar exam in February, and she’s feeling just about ready for marriage. Don’t think that means she’s giving up TV for good, though. Earlier this week, Katie Couric hosted a get-together for The Bachelor franchise alums for her hard-hitting daytime talk show, where Rose reconnected with Vienna Girardi — at different points in time her BFF and her nemesis — and dished on shocking moments of seasons past with Desiree Hartsock, Trista Sutter, Kacie B, Sean Lowe and more.

Erica’s father is Houston Celebrity Plastic Surgeon Dr. Franklin Rose who has performed plastic surgery on at least 3 of the contestants from the Bachelor franchise.  The doctor, who has operated on the ORIGINAL Bachelorette Trista Sutter recently, along with Bachelor finalists Vienna Girardi and Ella Nolan, laughs when highlighting the business his daughter has brought to his practice in the past few years.

“We’ve had several of her friends stay with us here at the house to recover after their surgeries. My wife Cindi and I even have a special area set up for them. We jokingly call it ‘The Bachelor Guest Quarters.’ ” Franklin Rose tells CultureMap.

A single use of color creates drama, and when master silhouette artist, Cindi Harwood Rose, designed a black, cream, and white space, she immediately thought that classic silhouettes would be a stylish element.

“I chose the idea that black and white combines all colors and none of the colors, at the same time, depending if you were using the theory of light or opaqueness.  It is the yin/yang of life—opposites that cry neither good or evil, just existing side by side.  A great room, creates thought, and with a shock of color, here and there, one awakens extraordinary feelings of awe,”  the scissors artist states.   The playful silhouettes by Cindi span over 30 years– there is a cowboy created from her former Disneyland silhouette art days, a reverse white on black denying stereotypes, and  silhouettes of animals, children, and family groupings. C. H. Rose, even empowered some of the silhouettes with her penmenship and humor.   McKenzie-Childs funky black and white serving patterns tease Rose’s whimsical detailed artwork. Glamor becomes a home’s crowning star via stunning silhouettes by premier silhouette artist Cindi Harwood Rose in a luxury high-rise, the Royalton, in 77019 district, in Houston, the most thriving economic city in America.  The theme is black, cream, and white, with touches of brilliant floral color.  The main artist, international  humanitarian and American Hero, Cindi Rose, has greeted me today in this model  dwelling.

She is dressed in smart black Prada with a lovely silhouette pendant on her neck, one of her own designs.  Her vision, and toned frame is a silhouette of slender grace, she is an icon to society, not only for her art, but her deep sense of light and love.  Although you could call her beautiful, her penetrating eyes examine beyond a surface of a face, letting you know that neither she nor her art are shallow.

Though the color palette is mostly black and white, the 19^th floor view overlooking Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city, is bursting with colors and vibrations.  The welcoming entrance is walled with whimsical Cindi H. Rose hand-cut silhouettes framed in various colors, mounted on different borders, some of characters, some pets, and many with words of inspiration on them.  “I wanted to make this particular space thought provoking,”  Mrs. Rose mentioned, thus, simple words, “Listen, love, learn,” or “Every great dog needs a home and a bone,” are hand-written on some of her fine scissor arts.  A guest bathroom amplifies the radiant paper cut arts with a linear row of unique silhouettes streaming down a wall.  Cindi has furthered the theme with silhouettes hand-drawn on the soap holder, and room spray.

She explains that the theme of silhouette began as early as cave dwellings on the walls, Greek urns, and in Chinese embroidery patterns, yet the type of art she mastered, is a French and English art, once called shades, and later renamed as silhouettes in honor of a French minister of finance, Etienne de Silhouette.  Silhouette artwork was less expensive than oil portraits, and became the rage for royalty a few hundred years ago, pre-camera.  True to the fact that all real silhouette artists are artists, the home is also spotlighted with Cindi Harwood Rose’s oil and acrylic paintings, and sculptures.  In research on the internet, Cindi’s name comes up first as the most famous, fastest, top, best silhouette artist—her website is silhouettesbycindi.com.   The scarceness of these primed master profile etchers is astounding—only a few handfuls, world-wide of noted talents— Olly Moss for his comic book and star silhouettes, Kara Walker for her racial provoking wall sized Dickens’ style silhouettes, and Carter Custera, for his humorous almost wall-traced interpreted cut arts.  C. Cindi Harwood, a fourth generation artist and paper cutter, began drawing portraits as a child, and doing silhouettes as a teen.  Her mother, Doris, was an architect, and paper cutter of known skills.  Cindi took her talents to both Disney theme parks in order to earn her college degree in fine arts and communications at University of Texas.  From the beginning, people where amazed at her speed, and unmatched details.  Very few silhouette artists can master the interior cuts, so often they are solid black, and very generic. Also, few can do groupings.

Her fee will be $35 each person, with duplicate copies for only $10 a person, that way fathers, grandfathers, and uncles can have a silhouette, and this is less than a hand-made greeting card. 

Plus, Cindi Harwood Rose, is acclaimed as the top silhouette artist in America.  The silhouette historian, Peggy McClard recommends collecting Cindi Harwood Rose’s silhouettes, they will go up in value, as collectable.  Some of her earlier paper profiles (she has snipped portraits for 40 years) have gone for a few hundred dollars!

She will be at the store after school hours on Friday, June 14th from 2-6pm; and on Saturday June 15th 10:15am – 2:30pm.  All silhouettes will be mounted on 5 x 7 acid free paper.

Erica Rose has been active with the Aishel House in Houston which provides assistance to patients and families  of any spiritual or religious belief with  home-made kosher food, housing, babysitting, to those critically sick from all over the world who come to the renown Houston medical center for wellness. 

She is also heading up The Rose Petals in various cities, for people in the 20’s and 30’s to be active in the non-profit world. Both ventures are due to her inspiration from her aunt, Holly Harwood Skolkin, who passed last year after a 15 year courageous battle with stage 4 cancer. This is a division of The Holly Rose Ribbon Foundation 501 (c) (3). The foundation is a firm believer of the Aishel House, which constantly gives love and support to families and patients who have critical illness. Erica’s aunt Holly felt that her life was prolonged due to the ability to help others with cancer while she herself struggled with the illness, she took it as a health opportunity, and gave blessings during her entire life.

In this photo, Erica is with Shoshanna Traxler at a recent Aishel House fundraiser in Houston, Texas.  Erica, known to her television admirers, for her quick wit, and designer tiaras she called T-Ericas, has her law degree, and currently taking time to do volunteer work, fundraising, appearances, and is working on a book.

Matthew Bone was born into and reared by a clan of Tuscan Raiders in Los Angeles. Raised on a diet of comic books, horror movies, and Pornography. Matthew injects a distinctive voice into his painting. Pride, lust, vengeance, the lurid underbelly of humanity, and the allegories that illustrate the consequences of its revelation have long been the focus of Matthew Bone’s work. By utilizing the conventions of pop culture, and its willingness to embrace artifice as the sincere, Matthew is able to create his own re-envisioned modern mythology.

Over the past 10 years, Matthew’s work has been collected by celebs such as Gerard Way, Alice Cooper, Jason Biggs and James Gunn. “Growing up as a latchkey kid, time was filled with unmonitored viewing of porn, horror and sci-fi. By using the adult entertainment stars of today, I’m able to tap into the artificial world of the porn starlets that (de)formed my early ideas of sexuality and femininity. Through adult hindsight, these sensationalistic images are filtered into a post-modern commentary and exploration of our personal mythologies”

Matthew is currently working on his piece for a June 8th group show at Parlor Gallery in Asbury, NJ and his next show with Last Rites Gallery that will open in March of 2014, it will feature large format paintings from reference shot under blacklight to emulate deep sea bioluminescence as a parable for self evolution and further explore his aesthetic fascination with Wet and Messy fetish, portraiture and photorealism.

The New Orleans Swamp Donkeys Traditional Jass Band, national spring tour is currently underway and will perform a unique and exciting performance on Tuesday, May 14th at Super Happy Funland located at 3801 Polk Street in Houston, Texas.

Considered “the hottest traditional Dixieland Jazz band in New Orleans,” the Swamp Donkeys know how to rock–traditional style with a contemporary feel, appealing to wide audiences. With James Williams on trumpet and Jon Ramm on trombone, you have no lack of that New Orleans brass known around the world. Sam Friend brings in his master of guitar and the combination of his and Williams’ vocals are like none other. Add in Wes Anderson on Sousaphone and Jams Marotta on drums to round out the rhythm section and there is no reason for you to not get up and dance.

If you’re looking for a traditional New Orleans jazz band, the Swamp Donkeys are for you. Already setting records on Frenchmen Street, they will rock anywhere, traditionally of course.

Recently, Silhouette Artist Cindi Harwood Rose was invited to do silhouettes at both the Sarah and James Polk Presidential Museum and the Thomas Jefferson family reunion as a special guest.

The famous paper art profile master raved: “I was recently invited to Monticello to do silhouettes of President Thomas Jefferson’s family reunion, and to tour the lovely grounds, and recreate history!

I am really enjoying visiting the former homes of the United States of America’s Presidents and doing their silhouettes, as well as their generations of family and patrons.”

Pictured here is Cindi’s silhouette of Cornelia Jefferson, President Jefferson’s granddaughter, an artist who taught drawing, painting and sculpture. She died in 1871 and was buried at Monticello.

C. H. Rose, famous silhouettest claimed, “I fell in love with Reston, Virginia, and Monticello! I loved the Thomas Jefferson family reunion, there were artists and architects, throughout the group, seven grandfathers ago.

What an honor to do silhouettes at our third President’s family reunion – It was overwhelming to be in such a warm environment of intellectual and artistic individuals who stay true to making the world a better place through their careers.  Of note, many of the distinguished family chose lifestyles that promote the fine arts, living with environment conscious design, which is apparent in the lovely setting at Monticello.  It is a destination, and it should be put on your “to visit list.”  The rooms were intimate and small, which I adore, it was cozy!  I would never want a large room, but oh, how I want those large closets, that were not popular in the 1700’s.

Thomas Jefferson is key to our declaration of Independence, and now we have proof, all men are created equal by G-d, we live in the best country, it does not matter if you are democratic or republican, T. J., was both!   The reunion accepted all its descendants of all races, and each were a badge to describe who they descended from, other than me and my college roommate who came to enjoy our time together.

The silhouette wall shown (other than the ones I hold which are mine) were done by the Pantograph, which is a machine that took a photo profile, and shrunk it, and a family member than cut the silhouette from that.  It is cheating, but is priceless, due to who she cut silhouettes of, and who they were.  Even in the 1700’s there were not more than 28 true living silhouette artists (same as today) who could look, and cut the profile without a sketch, light, tracing, projector, and with the interior details, and groupings.  It is a gift, and any real silhouette artist will tell you they feel the same way! Of course I brought some of my Vintage French silhouette paper, that is over 50 years old, that I purchased in bulk 30 years ago, not made anymore! I felt very connected with a family history of architects, engineers, artists, lawyers, doctors, good people trying to help others, doing causes to make the world better.”
