Dr. Franklin A. Rose will deliver a special d’var Torah at Shabbat Shuvah services on Friday, Sept. 18, at 6 p.m. in the Barish Sanctuary at Congregation Emanu El. He is being recognized as a member of the congregation who has given to the community.
After learning of Holly’s illness and the fact that more than 45 million such Americans are without health insurance, Rose and his wife, Silhouette Artist Cindi Harwood Rose, made it their mission to help those in need.
To date, the organization has performed more than $1 million of charitable surgery to those in need. More recently, the foundation has expanded its mission and currently awards scholarships to students at the University of Houston who have either lost one or two parents to any type of cancer.
“Both Cindi and I feel that this is just a small gesture of giving back to the community in honor of Holly, and it really is a true mitzvah for both of us that we both find a deep sense of gratitude and warmth,” said Rose. “It really is a privilege to be able to help those in need.”
Rose earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado, completed his internship at the University of California, did a residency in general surgery at Yale University and Albert Einstein College of Medicine Hospitals in New York and completed his residency in plastic surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston.
